Patio Lights

If you have a patio in your home you are one of the lucky ones. There are so many of us who live in apartments and will have to be content with a balcony if even that. Others will only have a large window and however much we try deluding ourselves that this is what we want there are times when we will long for a house with a backyard and a patio where we can sit around with our friends.

It therefore becomes almost compulsory that if you have a patio you should install patio lights. Most lighting manufacturers will have a separate collection for patio lights and you can choose from them. The reason for this is that patio lights are meant to be outside and will therefore be weather proofed while the fixtures meant for the inside of your home are not meant to be exposed to the sun and rain.

This means that patio lights on average will be more expensive than normal lights. Of course you can put in ordinary lights if you have a covered patio, but how many of us have one. Most patios are open air because it is sort of like a place which is neither inside nor outside and both inside and outside. You can have a few chairs and even one single light and sit comfortably during times when the weather outside is fine; there is nothing more relaxing than that.

The kind of lighting you choose is obviously restricted by the size of your budget. There are so many things that you can do but the practical choices are usually based on the price. The more you spend the more impressive you can make your patio, but that is something that everyone already knows. The problem is when you do not have so much money to spend. Most patio lights that you like will be priced above the $100 or $150 range and many of us just cannot afford to throw money around like that.

There are other options that you can use but this will require a bit of work from you. For example string lights are one of the best suited for a patio and you don’t have to string them up if you don’t want to. You can lay them along the edges or hanging down from the underside of the patio if it is just a couple of inches off the ground and it will be just as good. You can also use solar powered lamps because they are actually very cheap. You get them for around $20 a piece although the better ones can go up to $50; but there is enough of a range for you to find something that you can use in your patio. For example a couple of solar pathway lights that cost only $15 a piece put along the corners, either all four or just two, will give you as much of an effect as something else that you did that cost ten times as much.

In this case it is more your imagination that will restrict you. I have seen patio lights that have been hand made out of beer bottles and whether you believe it or not, it really looks nice. A simple globe light kept strategically would also be sufficient; it is all in the placement. Of course if you have the money there are a lot more things that you can do starting with floor lamps and concealed lighting. The one that I prefer the most has to be the ones that look like little fireflies that are basically string lights that you can put up wherever you want and if you have a bush nearby it is really cool to string them up on it. Look it up online, you will know how much choice you have and then you can decide what you want for your home.
