When you were younger, you probably spent more time outdoors than indoors, but once you started getting into the rat race, everything’s changed. Where earlier you just got up and went out, you now have to plan out in advance each hour that you will be spending outside. Although weekends are a good time to get together with the family, lazing around outside is just not done.
Having a kitchen outdoors will make all the difference. You can cook outside while at the same time keeping an eye on your children playing. Just being outdoors will remove the “chore” that cooking really is and make it a pleasant experience, and even the simplest food tastes great when eaten outdoors. If you feel that a grill is mostly sufficient, think again. A grill is a great piece of equipment when you go out camping, it’s compact, light and easy to transport. When you are thinking of cooking outdoors in your home, you really do not plan the simple fare that you would when you camp. You’d want a little more substantial meals and this is just not done with a grill. You could of course cook everything indoors and only barbeque outdoors, but the whole point behind doing it is gone.
Installing an outdoor kitchen is probably the best idea here; nothing fancy, a simple one would do. You could of course opt to build one to your own specifications, but this is usually more expensive than getting one and installing it. Outdoor kitchens come in all sizes and you could choose one which you feel is the correct one for you. All these kitchens come with cabinets where you can keep your stuff, a counter top where you can do all your chopping and slicing, and a cooking range where you can do the cooking; everything made simple for you.
An outdoor kitchen usually comes in four sizes, economy, mid-sized, large and extravagant. The difference between these is usually the size of the entire kitchen as well as the appliances that come along with it, although some of them offer customization. All of them have weather proof construction with a cooking range, only the scale differs.
The economy kitchen starts off at around the $1000 although you would have to do a lot of searching to find one so cheap. The usual price range is between $2000 and $4000. These kitchens come with a very simple cooking range and a counter that is just sufficient for your needs. A cabinet where you can store your stuff is also included. Although this might seem sufficient for most households, taking a look at the next range is good.
The mid-size outdoor kitchen starts at around $4000 and goes up to the $8000 mark and is a little more elaborate than the economy one. The counter is bigger, you get a better cooking range made of stainless steel and you can get two or more cabinets installed, again in stainless steel. The overall finish is also better with you getting a faux rock or brick finish on the outside of your kitchen. Although all kitchens are also stand alone, having one that looks like you’ve built the counter is just great. These cabinets are a better bet than the economy ones because they are only a little more expensive but give you a lot extra. All you have to do is take a look at the cooking ranges provided to know if you’re getting your money’s worth or not.
The large and extravagant sized kitchens are not really necessary in households, although if you have the money and wish to make a statement, there is nothing that will approach one of these. These kitchens can cost up to $50,000 and can include a full fledged bar with a refrigerator along with a huge counter and separate bar top. They will come with all the bells and whistles and have all the appliances that you could conceivably need to do your cooking.
Whichever one you decide to go for, having an outdoor kitchen is a good idea, especially if you like to cook outside at least once a week. It is a great addition to any home and will even increase the overall value of your home.
